Thank you for visiting the official site of the Franklin County Democratic Party.  We are dedicated to electing endorsed Democratic candidates to local, state and national office.  We promote a platform of universal and equal opportunity, economic responsibility and social justice because we are the Party of the People. Democrats believe and understand that the average American is our nation’s strength.

Franklin County has become a Democratic stronghold because of people like you, our dedicated elected Democratic officials and their employees and the staff and volunteers at the Franklin County Democratic Party. In the last three presidential elections - 2000, 2004 and 2008 - Democratic candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama won our county by increasingly larger margins. In 2006, Governor Strickland, U. S. Senator Sherrod Brown, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, Treasurer Richard Cordray, Attorney General Marc Dann and Auditor candidate Barbara Sykes all won Franklin County. Two years later, Attorney General Cordray swept our county by a landslide. As recently as 1999, the only Democrat who held county-wide office was Sheriff Jim Karnes who won re-election in 2008.  Today, Democrats control most county-wide offices including Maryellen O’Shaughnessy as the Clerk Of Common Pleas Court and Lori Tyack as Clerk Of Municipal Court, Treasurer Ed Leonard, Coroner Dr. Jan Gorniak and all three county commissioners: Paula Brooks, Marilyn Brown and John O’Grady. U.S. Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy represents the 15th Congressional District and seven of the county’s nine members of the Ohio House are Democrats.

Franklin County has become Democratic because voters want fiscal responsibility, sensible decision making on issues and courteous service from government servants who understand that their salaries are paid by the people they serve. Democrats understand why and how government can make peoples’ lives better. We always look for ways to improve government service because we believe in “government of the people, by the people and for the people” and we know that governing is not a right but a responsibility.

We have won elections and changed government by honestly discussing our differences and then coming together as Democrats. (We know the old saying is true: If two people agree on everything, only one of them is doing the thinking.)  We have worked as a team to recruit quality candidates, to focus on grassroots organization, and to raise the necessary resources. We are committed to ensuring the positive representation of our diverse constituency through campaign assistance, grassroots activism, and citizen advocacy. And we're always looking for ways to embrace new members and improve our organization. We're counting on you to join us in these efforts.  Volunteer, write a letter to the editor, or make a donation no matter the amount.

And keep reminding your friends and family that Democrats are the true Party of the People-economically and socially. We represent the factory workers, not just the factory owners; the chauffeurs, not just the people being driven; the bank custodians and tellers, not just the bank presidents. We know just how right President Clinton was when he said that America is a great country because we have always believed in two great ideals: Tomorrow can be better than today and each of us has a personal responsibility to make that happen.

With those ideals and with your help and support, the Franklin County Democratic Party will continue its progress.

In Solidarity,

William A. Anthony Jr.
Chair, Franklin County Democratic Party
